'United We Stand' theme for Cincinnati Pride

The Greater Cincinnati Gay and Lesbian Coalition, a coalition of 27 transgender, bisexual, lesbian, gay and supportive organizations, has named "United We Stand" the theme for 1994 Pride festivities.

This year's festival will be the largest Pride celebration ever held in Cincinnati. A parade with floats and a two-day festival will wind up six weeks of community events. Gregory Gajus, vice president of GCGLC,

emphasizes the importance of Pride 1994 for the Cincinnati lesbian and gay community. "In 1993, our community faced a campaign that aimed to marginalize us and our contributions to the city. We emerged as a strong, united people and Pride 1994 has special meaning. This year's Pride Celebration proves that our movement cannot be stopped."

'Liberty for all!' says Cincinnati Men's Chorus

The Cincinnati Men's Chorus is holding their third and final concert of this year by celebrating Pride 1994 on Thursday and Friday, June 16 and 17, beginning at 8 pm at Greaves Hall on the Northern Kentucky University Campus. The 75-voice men's choir under the artistic direction of Kent Peterson will present music with a decisive freedom flavor: With Liberty and Justice for ALL!

Who better to know what freedom is than a founding father of the United States? The Chorus will perform a portion of Randall Thompson's "The Testament of Freedom" from the writings of Thomas Jefferson: "The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time, the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."

"Freedom" is a medley of three freedom songs from South Africa: "Freedom is Coming," "Asikhatali," and "We Shall Not

Give Up The Fight."

With Cincinnati's Issue 3 debate, the Chorus will sing of pride in themselves and each other in "True Colors," "Love Don't Need A Reason," "What More Can I Say" and winner of the 1992 GALA Composition Award, "In This Moment."

The Cincinnati Men's Chorus, a voluntary non-profit community chorus, began two years ago by a group of nine men whose mission was to perform in a musical setting, to provide social and fellowship experiences and to present a positive image of the gay community to the general public. The 1993-94 concert season has been orchestrated by Peterson and assisted by Richard E. Teaster and Thomas Swenson.

Tickets for With Liberty and Justice for ALL! are $10 and are available by calling the CMC Hotline at 513-861-4042 or by calling Select-A-Seat at 513-721-1000.▼
